Peabody Development Company is a subsidiary of Peabody Energy, which is one of the largest private sector coal companies in the world. Its coal products fuel more than 10 percent of the United States' electricity generation and over two percent of worldwide electricity. Founded in 1883, Peabody Energy offers a portfolio of coal supplies. It manages and holds majority interests in more than 30 mines in the U.S., Australia and Venezeula, as well as has access to brokered coal secured by Peabody COALTRADE. Peabody Energy conducts business through operating segments that include Western U.S. Mining, Eastern U.S. Mining, Australian Mining, and Trading and Brokerage.
