Established in 1865, the St. Joseph Fire Department works to provide fire investigation and inspection, code enforcement, public education, and emergency medical and rescue services. The department staffs more than ten fire stations, as well as tower, engine and light rescue companies. It offers information regarding fire prevention and safety at homes, churches, restaurants and commercial buildings. The St. Joseph Fire Department operates a fleet of engines, rescue vans and utility vehicles. It employs more than 35 firefighters who offer 24-hour emergency rescue services during domestic and large commercial incidents. It conducts training sessions in fire suppression and tactics, hazard material operations and confined space rescue. The department is located in St. Joseph, Mo.
