The St. John Fire Department works to provides services that include emergency medical and hazardous material response, fire suppression and rescue operation. The department promotes the prevention of emergencies caused by fire and manmade and natural disasters. It works with team of more than 50 staff members. The St. John Fire Department is responsible for plan reviews, building inspections and public education. The department is accredited by the National Fire Protection Association. It is governed by the city of St. John in Indiana, which was founded in 1837. The city additionally manages police, animal control, and building and planning departments.
