General Info
House Kitchen & Bar boasts a casual but sophisticated atmosphere where you can find re-imagined classic American comfort food that caters to a variety of tastes. Located to the west of the state Capitol, House was created with the idea in mind that our House is yours: a place where you can enjoy your favorite homemade recipes such as macaroni and cheese and fried chicken, but with a contemporary twist. Open for lunch Monday through Friday, House also offers dinner service and an extended happy hour Wednesday through Friday, with specialty cocktails, house wine by the glass, and an array of appetizers for $5; as well as $2 and $3 draft beers served from 4pm until 8pm. The outside patio dining area, with its inviting and eye-catching bright orange umbrellas, evokes feelings of leisure and socialization. Summertime weather, coupled with superior food, drinks, and service, make House Kitchen & Bar downtown Sacramento’s newest and most noteworthy destination. Complimentary parking is available after 5pm in the Plaza 555 garage. Ask about hosting your private party or corporate event at House; many catering options are available.

I and five friends went to lunch here today. Everyone enjoyed their food except one friend that ordered a medium well hamburger, but received a rare (I almost gagged there was so much red blood) burger. I myself, had the Thai Salad which was wonderful. However, and I do say HOWEVER...as I was sitting there-a waitress came up behind me and spilled SIX glasses of ice water down my back. I was drenched and freezing Thank goodness, that very second , I had put my Nikon in its case and moved it; when it happened. The embarrassed waitress apologized profusely and said "I am so sorry! This is practically my first day here!" and we at the table were horrified when her snippy boss waitress said "and this is also your last day of working here!" We did not receive our drinks until we had already been served our meals. To add insult to injury though-they did not even comp my $3.50 iced tea-for which they offered no refills

I have the French Dip with the endless French Fries every time I go there, which is about once a week. I have never been disappointed in either the food or the service. While I am waiting for my sandwich, I have what I consider to be the best Mac and Cheese in the world. If you haven't been to House Kitchen & Bar then you have missed a great downtown restaurant.
