I used to love going to the Village Gourmet. They make a wonderful pepper mix for bread, but it would be a cold day in Hades before you'll catch me there again. The last two times I've eaten at the Village Gourmet, the food wasn't as good as it used to be. The Peking Dumplings are ordinary Chinese takeout dumplings. The daily menu is boring, they have burgers, pasta, pizza, steaks and their odd combination of Chinese food and stir-fries-- but the specials were what kept me coming back. They served creative and delicious specials like grilled shrimp and pineapple with brie and apricot chutney, or a delicious seafood casserole with a decadent pastry crust. Now the special menu is just as dull as the daily menu. The servers treat customers as if they're an inconvenience. The last time I went, the server forgot my husband's appetizer, served me the wrong meal, didn't refill our drinks or ask us how our food was-- in fact she ignored us when we tried to get her attention.
