- The concessions AT the park store feature the only menu of freshly prepared food on the Beach of Higgins lake. We feature made to order fresh deli sandwiches. Submarines. & wraps. Hand tossed fresh pizza HOT from the oven by the slice. Or whole pizza made to order while YOU wait. Ball park HOT dogs & polish sausages. HOT stuffed pretzels. Hand dipped ICE cream in your favorite northern Michigan flavors. Self serve pepsi products fountain drinks. Slush puppies. & fresh brewed coffees every morning… we offer pontoons ranging from 8 person capacities to large 12 person capacity boats. AS well AS small kayaks. Stand UP paddle boards. And canoes. We rent pontoons AT 1/2 DAY sessions. Full DAY. Or multiple days BE sure to call ahead for availability and to secure your reservations. Holidays & popular weekend reservations tend to fill quickly. - We are located on the beach in the day-use area of the South Higgins Lake State Park. The Park Store actually dates it’s origins from 1935 when it was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps from local native white pine timber as the South Park’s caretakers family residence & camp store. Through the years it has undergone several revisions, additions & renovations- though it no longer serves as a caretakers residence, it remains a unique landmark in the popular park. Located in the DAY USE area of ONE of the most popular state park public beaches in Michigan! the south Higgins lake state park is the favorite GO to Beach of many vacationers and locals alike in northen Michigan. The DAY USE area of the park features a large boat launch basin. Nearly a half mile of prime Beach & swimming area. Family picnicking & playgrounds. Interpretive hiking trails. Large pavilions for group gatherings. Easy parking for over 600 vehicles. And of course the centerpiece the landmark historical park store.
