Established in 1995, Sweetwater County Fire District 1 provides life and property protection services from fire threats and natural and manmade disasters. It offers classes on a range of topics, such as wilderness search, firefighter tools, confined space rescue, ventilation, hazmat protection, water supply, decontamination, fire suppression and building construction. The department provides fire prevention, inspection, rescue, training and emergency services. It offers services to oil and gas facilities, power plants, coal mines, chemical units, mainline railroads, ranches and subdivisions. The department coordinates with fire engines, air supply trailers and a fleet of utility trucks. It has a staff of more than 25 full-time and volunteer firefighters, assistant chiefs and training officers. Sweetwater County Fire District 1 is located in Rock Springs, Wyo.
