General Info

The first Macados restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees.Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.Macados just recently opened its newest location in Winchester, Virginia. The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such as the Macados Annual St. Patricks Day Party and the Macados Halloween Party. Loyal customers have made Macados part of their own traditions as well!

i.e., A local favorite, or highly recommended becauseWe attended Macado's with our family from out of town, and friends from out of town. Our party was 5 adults and 3 children, two of whom were toddlers. We were seated outside and when it began to start to rain, they would not move us inside even upon request, or even set up an umbrella in the table designed to hold one to cover us from the cold rain. The food was sub par, the customer service was near non-existent and it was extremely loud and smelled like cigarette smoke. We will never return to this restaurant again.
