  A power of attorney is a very important, powerful document. It allows you to name one or more people to handle all of your personal affairs, from important financial matters to situations concerning where you live and family relations. This becomes extremely important if you become incapacitated and are unable to handle these matters. Many people assume that a spouse has the authority to handle these matters by virtue of being married but that is not the case. Without a comprehensive power of attorney in place, a guardianship proceeding will need to be commenced in court and there is no guaranty that the court will appoint the person you would want.   Administrative complaint filed by hospital liaison with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, alleging wrongful termination in violation of the federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act. After submission of evidence, the case was closed after conciliation attempts. The claimant did not pursue litigation.

  Employers face significant exposure and risk to claims under federal, state, and local laws regarding equal employment opportunities for employees. These risks have only become more prominent during the “#MeToo” era. Claims for discrimination, harassment, and retaliation can arise under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1963, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, pregnancy, or national origin.
