  Douglas Wood has been defending people in criminal cases for nearly 35 years. After being admitted to practice law in 1977, he joined the elite ranks of the District of Columbia Public Defender Service as a trial attorney. From 1977 to 1984, he handled hundreds of criminal cases for the Public Defender Service, including traffic and DUI charges, juvenile matters, misdemeanors and serious felonies.

  Police misconduct case alleging excessive force. Court held that the decedent’s father and the mother of his child had standing to bring a wrongful death action.

  Mr. Griffiths represents clients in criminal matters in the state and federal courts of Maryland. He is an accomplished trial attorney, who has handled hundreds of cases in matters ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies, including narcotics, sex offenses, robberies and homicides.

  In 1985, Mr. Wood entered private practice, forming the litigation firm of Roberts & Wood in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where he continues to handle criminal cases in the state and federal courts of Maryland and the District of Columbia. His cases range from minor misdemeanors, such as traffic and simple drug cases; to the most complex felonies, including rape, robbery and murder.

  Terrell Roberts represented the plaintiffs,  Ronald and Anne Moser, in the civil case, which ended up with a decision in the Mosers’ favor in Maryland Court of Appeals.  The Mosers were the victims of an embezzlement and theft by their bookkeeper, whose crimes they reported to the police.  Oddly, the bookkeeper sued the Mosers for defamation, which was nothing short of a scheme to pressure the Mosers to back away from their criminal complaint.  This did not work.  The decision of the Court of Appeals affirms the principle that a party who gives a deposition in a civil case cannot in the same proceeding invoke the Fifth Amendment at the trial of the civil matter.

  Defendant Acquitted of Murder After Serving Twelve Years, demonstrates Mr. Griffiths’ versatility as both an appellate and trial attorney. He has been recognized as one of D.C. Top Criminal Lawyers by Washingtonian magazine every year since 2011.

  There are few lawyers with the trial experience of Douglas Wood. He has had over 50 jury trials in homicide cases alone. Overall, he has defended clients in many hundreds of trials with great success.   In 1985, Mr. Roberts formed the litigation firm of Roberts & Wood and began to focus his practice on civil litigation, including personal injury, auto accidents and medical malpractice. His accomplishments include large jury verdicts in these and other practice areas, including several verdicts in excess of one million dollars.
• Medical Malpractice
  Terry Roberts handles civil cases for the firm. He has obtained millions of dollars in judgments and settlements for clients in a wide variety of cases, including auto accidents, bus accidents, medical malpractice and consumer fraud. Mr. Roberts has developed a specialty in police misconduct cases, and is a regional authority in cases involving police brutality and false arrest.
