Desert Area Resource and Training is a private, nonprofit corporation for disabled persons. It serves the regional centers, rehabilitation facilities and the Sierra Sands Unified School District. It provides training and supported living services to the patients suffering from physical disabilities and mental disorders. The corporation provides special programs to patients with developmental and learning disabilities. Additionally, it provides referral programs and awareness information regarding disabilities. It also organizes a variety of events, such as awareness months, seminars, trips and sports competitions. The corporation publishes newsletters and has a store featuring books, clothing, furniture, shoes and house wares. It is approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Desert Area Resource and Training is located in Ridgecrest, Calif., and was established in 1961.
