- Robotics Three robotics teams prepare each year for competitions. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of science and Technology) LEGO League introduces sixth and seventh grade students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) sponsors a LEGO team for 5th grade. A CSM VEX program sponsors an 8th grade team. Each team must design, build, test and program robots to accomplish tasks. Some teams must also complete a research project related to the challenge. A new challenge is presented each year. It's fun. It's exciting. And the skill they learn last a lifetime. Basketball Students in grades 5 to 8 are able to participate in the Catholic Schools Sunday league basketball program. Instructed and supervised by adult coaches, girls and boys practice and compete against other Catholic schools in the area. Band Once a student reaches fourth grade he or she may choose to become part of the junior band program. This is a special program, taught by an independent instrumental teacher. Practices are held once a week and with dedication and practice students are able to move up into advance band. This program is administered by the Archdiocese and charges an annual fee of $600 to cover the cost of instruction. Families rent or purchase instruments.

General Info
St. Michael's School in Ridge, Maryland is a fully accredited, private, Catholic school which offers a family-oriented, structured, disciplined environment of acceptance, trust and respect for your child. The robust academic program challenges students, but small classrooms allow for individual, specialized attention when needed. Teachers at St Michaels School work with parents to teach the whole child spiritually and academically. From the pre-K classes of three and four year olds to the eighth grade class, your child will feel special and protected. There is great pride in the accomplishments of each child while attending St. Michael's and beyond. Each year, St. Michael's teachers receive recognition for their outstanding performance. The art program at the school has had its products displayed at the Walters Museum in Baltimore and the Basilica, as well as local restaurants. A musical performance of our children was selected for viewing at the stadium when Pope Benedict visited Washington, D.C. The Home/School Association has received national awards the past two years for its innovation, teamwork and successful results. Not only do the parents support the school, but the entire community of Ridge supports the school in fundraising, time, and encouragement. We are examples of the proverb It takes a village to raise a child. Each week, children plan and lead the Friday Mass. Older children in the seventh and eighth grades are assigned as buddies to the pre-K and Kindergarten students, so each child has an angel on earth to look out for them. Music is a part of each day's start and taught in classes. Physical education, art, Spanish, computer lab, and library visits occur at least weekly. Advanced math is offered for students who qualify. Basketball is the favorite extra-curricular sport for both boys and girls and the school has a cheerleading squad which practices as often as the basketball teams. Sports camps and programs are designed for the younger students as well. Children at St. Michael's School are respectful, responsible, and well-rounded individuals who are preparing to be the future leaders of our community.
