For over two thousand years the theory of Chi has been the basis of classical Chinese medical practice. Chi is said to flow through a system of channels in the body: when the flow of Chi is disturbed for whatever reason, illness results. Acupuncture treatment aims to re-establish the normal flow of Chi and thus restore ones health. The art of acupuncture is a therapy which uses needles, manipulated in certain prescribed ways to improve or enhance energy flow along various routes (channels and collaterals) in an effort to restore normal function. Along these routes are specific points that are used to insert needles. It also includes the application of heat and massage by cupping, moxibustion, or manipulation. It is said that when you've not eaten for some time, you grow hungry but that if you go without food long enough, the hunger subsides. Similarly, leading a life full of stress, disappointment and illness, we grow calloused in many ways and though we may not realize it, we lose the glow and excitement of a very healthy life.
