I’m not much on writing reviews but I feel like I’d be doing a disservice by not sucking it up for the gain of others after having done business with Mr. Berggren. Being 50 I come from the age of filing being something taboo and I couldn’t say with any more certainty it was by far one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. I immediately had a weight lifted off my shoulders after going to court with Bill and being approved to file with the damages I had caused myself financially. Not only was I able to keep my car and home but I was able to walk away from bad decisions in my opinion such as a time share, high interest loan, etc. I spent a lot of time checking others reviews and one of the many great things about filing with Bill is the fact you deal with the person you hire. It’s not like the offices of big name lawyers where you deal with all their up and comers. Not that they don’t deserve their right to make a name for themselves but when you’re talking about salvaging everything I’ve ever worked for having him by my side in court and every step of the way was lets say a blessing. Should you need to make this decision to better your financial and mental well being you can’t go wrong with working with Bill in my opinion. I am not writing this review as a bankruptcy client of Mr. Berggren…..it is quite the opposite. This review, which I hope to post everywhere, is about Mr. B’s character, his courtesy and understanding, his extreme knowledge of contractual and bankruptcy laws, and his professionalism (not to mention his terrific sense of humor).
On 3/3/23, I signed a contract with Covenant Roofing in Durham, as well as the financing documents for the job through GoodLeap, which Covenant refers their clients to for financing options.
About 5 weeks after I signed the contracts, no work had yet been started, Covenant Roofing filed for bankruptcy. Also, GoodLeap increased the amount of the contract I signed and they would not give me an addendum or a voided contract of the first one I signed, even though that amount was included AGAIN in the second set of loan documents. Of course, I would not sign the second set.
A friend of mine is a bankruptcy client of Mr. B, and she suggested I contact him for an unusual sort of consultation. First of all, somebody actually answered the phone when I called his office, and second of all, he called me right back. He said he would be happy to talk about my situation right over the phone, and third of all, with NO CONSULTATION FEE after 40 minutes on the phone. Amazing.
The bottom line is that, even though he is not my lawyer or representing me in any way, I took his advice on what to do which resulted in me getting out of my GoodLeap financing loan. And because I have it documented and memorialized that Covenant never started the work, nor did they return my calls and inquiries, that matter is also considered as null and void.
Thank you Mr. Berggren for being a decent human being who is ruled and driven by just doing something nice!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The best experience I’ve had in dealing with any attorney

I highly recommend Bill Berggren's law office for anyone considering filing for bankruptcy! About five years ago I had a bad experience with a lawyer in another state (unrelated issue) that unfortunately negatively changed the direction of pretty much my whole life ever since. So the thought of having to deal with a lawyer and the court system all over again, this time with a bankruptcy, scared the bejezuz out of me, and I procrastinated as long as I could possibly wait, because I was paralyzed by my fear that things would turn out differently than promised, like it did in my previous experience.

Having moved to Raleigh only recently, I had no local family or friends to ask for lawyer recommendations. So I picked out a few names from website searches and started calling around. The first two places I called pretended to be the lawyer’s office, but I suspect they were both nothing more than answering services to take messages. A paralegal; from one of those offices called me back same-day and we talked for longer than two hours about my case. But by the end of the conversation, neither I nor my husband were convinced she knew what she was talking about, or for that matter, not even fully paying attention to what I was telling her. She kept repeating things she told me earlier within that same conversation, at times contradicting what she said earlier, and asked me many of the same questions three and four times!!

Long story short, it was Bill’s office that I called for a second opinion, and to hopefully get some definitive answers to my questions that did not receive answers from the other office. It was Bill himself who answered the phone, which I thought was pretty cool, but then instead of telling me I had to set-up an appointment to discuss details, we dug right in to the details right then. When I hung-up, my husband and I looked at each other said: “He’s the one!”.
I expected that the process of filing for bankruptcy would be tedious, stressful, and time-consuming. While it was all of those things, choosing Bill Berggren to represent me was the smartest choice I made. I felt like he was genuinely interested in helping people (me) to get out of bad situations. He is very organized and professional but also very personable, and easy to talk to. Speaking of easy to talk to, I also appreciated the ability to have easy access to him either by email or phone, when I had a question to ask him. The process of filing for bankruptcy requires a lot of fact-finding and producing LOTS of documentation/ paperwork, but Bill was right on top of it, and helped me to keep on top of it as well! My experience with Berggren Law Offices was truly amazing. I knew absolutely nothing about how to even begin to file for bankruptcy. The most that I knew was I made some unwise financial decisions and needed help with getting back on track. I contacted the law office and was able to schedule an appointment for later that week. Bill was able to tell me exactly what I needed in order to file. There wasn’t any back and forth... or... I forgot you need that document. He is very detail oriented and walks you through the entire process. All of my questions were answered immediately. "Consummate Professional" is an understatement. I met Mr. Berggren in 2015. I thought it would be a simple process of seeking a lawyer and paying his fee. You wouldn't believe how personal and professional this man is. Yes I met him in 2015 and he handled my case with great detail but I also dropped by his office this past month. He took the time to sit down with me, without asking for anything, and map out my issue and resolution. He likes to draw illustrations on his pad when he's discussing your case. :-) You get a lesson in law, history, etc. I ended up staying an hour longer than anticipated and listened to Mr. Berggren speak. Considering the option of filing bankruptcy kept me awake many nights. When I finally built up the courage to contact an attorney, I pulled out my yellow pages and began making calls (I didn't want to ask friends or family if they had been in the same situation because I felt embarrassed and was still in denial). I contacted a few firms but Mr. Berggren and his assistant Mai were just what I needed to begin this process. My initial telephone contact with Mai was more than I bargained for. She was knowledgeable, patient and very easy to talk to. I was able to get an appointment within that same week and was ecstatic to find that the knowledge and patience didn't stop at Mai. Mr. Berggren was very thorough and made sure I understood every part of the process, every step of the way. He made it impossible to feel nervous. I'm so thankful I scrolled across Adams, Portnoy & Berggren, PLLC Attorneys At Law. First of all the staff is Professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and respectful. The Legal Assistant Mai Foulkrod helped me with my case. I had no choice, but to the point of poverty level after my Husband passed away struggling years. I have been a full time College Student this past year and decided ultimately that Chapter 7 was my best option. I will explain it this way...You will not feel in the dark. Mai is kind, helpful, hardworking, optimistic, thorough, with many years of experience so there's no worry about anything coming back on you. I would rate the Law Offices of William Berggren in particular, as very knowledgeable about bankruptcy law, far more than I expected. He was able to explain to me the benefits of a Ch. 7 filing & charged an affordable rate in consideration of my situation and less than his competitors . His staff is equally as knowledgeable and punctual while accurately guiding me through the entire process .
