Founded in 1969, New River Valley Community Services provides various behavioral health services to children, adults and families. The agency offers a variety of community-based treatment and prevention programs for mental health and retardation and substance abuse problems. It provides emergency, assessment, counseling, relapse prevention and testing services. It also operates an adult and family services unit that offers therapeutic treatment, support, employment, housing assistance, outreach, and social and recreational skills development services. Additionally, it provides a variety of case management services that includes discharge planning, residential support, crisis intervention, and community networking and education. New River Valley Community Services offers outpatient, in-home, and financial and administrative support services. It is a member of the Virginia Association of Community Services Boards and maintains one of its locations in Pulaski, Va.
