The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is a grantmaking organization that seeks to improve the health and health care of all Americans. The foundation s goals include: the assurance that all Americans have access to quality health care at reasonable cost; to improve the quality of care and support for people with chronic health conditions; to promote healthy communities and lifestyles; and to reduce the personal, social and economic harm caused by substance abuse. To accomplish its goals, the foundation uses a variety of strategies. It supports training, education, research and projects that demonstrate the effective delivery of health care systems. It also allocates roughly one of every four grant dollars to research and evaluation. Grantees include: hospitals; medical, nursing, and public schools; hospices; professional associations; research organizations; state and local government agencies; and community groups. The foundation is based in Princeton, N.J.
