Most recently, I suffered with hypothyroidism and a TSH level over 8.0. My normal level that I was striving for was 1.25. Helen and I spoke about how acupuncture could assist me with this. After just one session, my TSH dropped from 8.0 to 1.25, EXACTLY WHERE I NEEDED IT TO BE!!!! Yes, just one session with Helen and voila! A normal thyroid functioning test!   Asthma prevalence and severity are greater in women than in men(3). According to a study conducted by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, women have an increased risk of developing more severe and more frequent allergic reactions versus their male counterparts. Scientists believe that the female sex hormone estrogen may be responsible for a women’s greater sensitivity to allergies and severe allergic reactions. Boys are at higher risk of developing asthma and allergies until 10 years old. But, increases in a girl’s estrogen levels as they reach puberty begin making them more vulnerable.

  I’ve never met such caring and concerned healers, they saved my life. I have had Irritable Bowel Syndrome from taking three different antibiotics for two different health problems. My gastro doctor prescribed every test, including stool specimens and several drugs which didn’t help. I turned to acupuncture which has not only helped me, but made a huge difference in my life.   I am very grateful to you for the excellent acupuncture treatment you provided for my right eye which was diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration about six years ago. After a short period of treatment at the rate of once a week for over one month, I no longer saw any distortion in the grid, and this has continued. At my regular eye exam some time later, my doctor remarked that the drusen had shrunk from spots to pinpoints. She further noticed improvement in my glaucoma field test as it related to macular degeneration, and in another test. I was able to read one line better on the eye chart.

  At my most recent eye exam, my ophthalmologist found a hemorrhage on my right retina. I hadn’t noticed the spot, according to the doctor, because it was not in the center of my field of vision. My doctor referred me to a retina specialist for further examination. The retina specialist said that most hemorrhages heal themselves within three months, but mine was so large that he wanted a procedure done within a month called an IVFA. An IVFA is a series of photographs taken of the eye after injecting intravenous dye into the veins, to show how the veins in the eye are functioning. I went right to Helen Law. She gave me three treatments for my eye within that month. At the end of it, I went to get my IVFA. The retina specialist called me into his office after the procedure. He was looking at the photos. “The only reason I can see your hemorrhage in these pictures is because I know where it was. It has resolved itself ninety-nine percent. Basically, it’s gone.” I give Helen Law full credit for my swift and thorough recovery!

  Before seeing you, my husband and I had been trying for a baby for five years. After many IUI and IVF cycles, I had gotten pregnant three times – and had three miscarriages. While I have endometriosis, the doctors didn’t think it was related and couldn’t find a cause. They told us to start using donor eggs or adopt instead. I was only 34 years old!

• Interstitial Cystitis
  I am a 45 year old woman who has suffered from “overactive bladder” for all of my life. My symptoms consisted of severe daily frequency and urgency. I also have a history of multiple UTIs as a child and young woman, but did not have as many after my early 30s. I started taking Ditropan in 1977 and found that over the years the dose needed to be raised as my symptoms increased. I was on the maximum daily oral dose (30 mg) for many years. Last year I developed worsening symptoms where I would sometimes have to use the bathroom every 15 minutes for several hours per day. I also developed almost constant pain and burning in my bladder. I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis. I was switched from Ditropan XL to the Oxytrol patch to help alleviate the cholinergic side effects that I had been experiencing from the oral form of Ditropan. While this did diminish the side effects, it wasn’t strong enough, so I was prescribed an additional 15 mg of Ditropan as kept on using the patch. This still did not fully control my frequency and urgency. I still used the bathroom about once an hour if I was lucky. I was able to partially relieve the pain and burning and some of the urgency by modifying my diet, but after a while the symptoms came back no matter what my diet was like. It was at this point that I saw Helen Law. After my first acupuncture session, the constant pain and burning in my bladder disappeared and my former frequency diminished remarkably and I had almost no urgency. I felt like a normal person who is not controlled by her bladder. I stopped taking the Ditropan and the frequency and urgency did not worsen. The pain and burning started coming back after several days, but they were much milder. At this point, I had my second acupuncture session. Almost immediately my bladder discomfort went away. I tried to stop using the Oxytrol patch, but found that the urgency returned, so I resumed it. I am looking forward to my third session and will again try to stop using the patch. I am still fine without the Ditropan. Even if I am not able to manage without the Oxytrol patch, I consider the acupuncture to be a great success. The overactive bladder preceded my interstitial cystitis by decades, and I believe complicated it. It is wonderful to no longer have constant pain and burning and not to make many urgent trips to the bathroom each day.

• Chemotherapy
  At 33 years old, I was pregnant with my first child. It was a seemingly normal pregnancy until I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the 4th month of my pregnancy. As you can imagine my husband Pete and I were devastated and quickly sought the help of a variety of surgeons, oncologists, ob-gyns and the Pregnant with Cancer support team. We ultimately decided on a double mastectomy followed by 3 months of chemotherapy, a short break to deliver the baby and then finish up the final three months of chemotherapy, followed by bi-lateral reconstruction. We had done a great deal of research and heard that the chemotherapy we were planning on doing would not cross the placenta (as far as everyone knew).

  I’ve had two very special healings I attribute to acupuncture. I first came to Helen Law for treatment of De Quervain’s tendinitis. I had been experiencing extreme pain in both wrists... unable to perform many simple daily activities such as picking up my 2 year old niece or carrying grocery bags. The pain was so sharp and intense. Western medicine was offering me repeated cortisone injections, surgery and expensive long term physical therapy.
