General Info
The Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad ( hereafter referred to as "PFARS" or "the Squad" ) has its headquarters on the corner of Harrison Street and Clearview Avenue in Princeton Township, Mercer County, New Jersey. The two-story building houses three ambulances, a rescue truck, a four wheel drive utility vehicle, a Zodiac eight man boat, a special services and rehab vehicle, and a first response car. The station also has an air compressor to fill air bottles, an oxygen station, a 65 person meeting room, a day room, a computer room, and two sleep-in bunk rooms. The Squad has a flexible duty schedule, which provides coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The standard three shift system provides for a crew to be on duty from 7am to 3pm, 3pm to 11pm, or 11pm to 7am, and is designed to provide flexibility for members to maximize coverage. We are a Basic Life Support ( "BLS" ) agency ( as required by the State Department of Health ). All of our ambulances meet New Jersey state Department of Health and Senior Services requirements as licensed BLS ambulances. Our heavy rescue truck ( Rescue 168 ) supports our Rescue Operations. We provide Vehicle Extrication, Confined Space, High and Low Angle Rope, and Water/Ice Rescue services. As a member of the Mercer County Technical Rescue Taskforce ( TF-801 ), we also provide rescue services to all of Mercer County. Special Services-168 also carries Mass Casualty and rehabilitation equipment. Located in the northwestern corner of Mercer County, our jurisdiction is bordered by West Windsor, Plainsboro, Lawrencville, Kingston, Montgomery, Hopewell, and Rocky Hill, in Mercer, Middlesex, and Somerset Counties.
