Provided by YP.comI bought a puppy from here and became extremely sick within the 24hrs of having it home. He was very lethargic and would not eat or drink water all day. It was on a Sunday so I decided to take him to the emergency hospital and they treated him the best they could. It came down to him having a respiratory infection and possible pneumonia. Unfortunately, I had to return him because I could not afford all the vet bills (spending $1k within 24hrs of having him), but the vet thankfully kept him and hopefully he doesn't have to return there. Also, the manager there is a heartless person and really doesn't care about the well-being of these innocent puppies. Please avoid buying pets from that store or even visiting it. I made a mistake of doing that myself. Buying from there just supports the use puppy mills to obtain dogs and these puppies have most likely been living in terrible conditions. Buy from a private breeder or adopt!!!

Provided by YP.comBeing skeptical of the controversy surrounding pet stores, I decided to give The Pet Zone the benefit of the doubt after reading their "promise" online: "The Pet Zone in NO WAY supports illegal kennels or those with a history of failing USDA standards and inspections."
Upon entering the store, the location was clean and the staff pleasant. The dogs, as expected, were adorable and *most* seemed to be cared for. There was one in particular who did not seem well...
Not being aware of the deceitful lingo often used, their method of choosing breeders/puppies sounded fair and just. However, I decided to take the name of two of the breeders (which they willingly provided) and do some research prior to committing to make a puppy purchase.
The results were horrific. Both breeders were repeatedly in violation of USDA laws and both were clearly "puppy mills" with the number of dogs present in the 200+ range. Reading the reports of neglect, abuse, living conditions, etc. made me feel ill... I had often heard of the horror surrounding puppy mills, but I would have never expected the horror I stumbled across.
BEFORE making any purchase, I HIGHLY urge taking 5 minutes and just research where your puppy is coming from. Several of the reports I read clearly stated that puppies had been exposed to the ill dogs (as they are in closed confined spaces) and were also at risk of catching diseases/infections/etc...
Here is the USDA's website... Take a minute to research before you make a life long commitment:::: acissearch.aphis.usda.gov
Note: Giving the store the benefit of the doubt, I emailed the results of my search in case they were unaware who they are dealing with. None of my (multiple) emails or phone calls have been returned. Clearly they are aware of the situation and trying to take advantage of innocent consumers.

Provided by YPmobileSo my bf and i were looking for a husky and went to the pet zone, bought a husky and that same night he came home with us it was almost like where can we go to get him treated because he was sick. He had really bad diarrhea. He kept waking up with diarrhea every hour. We called the pet store and they told us it was normal on his first days at a home. A month passed and the poor husky has been on medication for a parasite that h had ever since he was at the pet store. And he started to throw up so much flem, we kept getting piled up with vet bills starting the first night he came home. Now we had to return the dog even though they didnt want him back. Now the finance people want us to pay $1,500 to end a contract when we shouldnt be because the store sold us a sick dog. Now im only going to buy a husky with a professional personal breeder. This pet place should be shut down!!!!

Provided by YPmobileDO NOT BUY ANY ANIMALS FROM THE PET ZONE STORE IN THE POUGHKEEPSIE GALLERIA! I recently purchased two bunnies from there.. BIG mistake. Turns out the bunnies were infected with some sort of parasite and were sick at the time of purchase. If we didn't take them to the vet right away they could have died. Not only did we have to incur unexpected veterinary fees almost immediately, but we also had quite a bit of stress over the whole situation (my cat I've had for almost 20 years died this summer and the bunnies were an attempt to start the healing process as it was very traumatic for me).. so I was worried these guys were going to die as well, even though I only had them for a short period of time. Probably the most troubling part is the reaction of the managers of the store who have done nothing except send an email saying "no warrenties on small pets." (I didn't even WANT to return them) Needless to say this was the single most horrible experience I've had dealing with anysort of customer service. This will be the first and last time I EVER walk into any pet store.. too bad the ASPCA was closed that day. I would strongly discourage anyone to go here as not only do they sell sick animals, but they also don't take any responsibility for it.
