The Portland Rescue Mission serves a great purpose. I am happy to support this wonderful establishment on a monthly basis. It is a blessing to those who are lonely and lost.

I know most about your ministry, Shepherd's Door. I have witnessed its beginnings and its continuing upgrading and expanding of Christian care for women and children. Close friends have served as volunteers and reported this good news and P.R. Newsletters and TV ads have updated us all. My parents volunteered at the Burnside facility back in the '30s and onward. They alerted me as a kid to your good work. I have noted with thanks your new programs,The Harbor and car sales. I'm unable to volunteer myself but the Lord nudges me and enables me to send prayers & dollars to help your directors, employees, and volunteers all continue God's good work. Thank you.

I get soo many cheap thrills coming here to donate blankets and clothes. For starters, the volunteer staff is always helpful and courteous. Second, the people in line for food are always grateful; thanking me as I walk in. Third, I love that the items go directly to the people in need - and that they don't get over-priced for sale by some big corporation. Fourth, the facility is clean and I always feel safe. Fifth, donating gently worn clothes and clean blankets etc, are a tax write-off. Did you know that the most needed items are feminine hygiene products and underwear? I didn't, but I do now. Did you know that they need blankets all year round and not just in January, when people have been living on the freezing cold streets for a few months? I know that now too. Sixth, I love that the women's and children's clothes and toys go directly to the safe houses and shelters. Keep that in mind around Christmas!! Lastly, and most selfishly, I get a big kick out of being flirted (with and the door being opened for me) by the guys in line. Drunk or sober, a woman never gets tired of chivalry - or cat calls (no matter what they say!). Please give to this organization!!! It's near and dear to my heart and it will be yours too.

This place has saved hundreds of people from being homeless, and helped hundreds more get off drugs and alcohol. Thousands get served breakfast and dinner who would otherwise go hungry. I really do wish I could put into words how grateful I am for the Portland Rescue Mission. I'm on the Linked program, and I honestly feel, for the first time in my life, like I really belong somewhere. No other shelter has ever been able to create a genuine atmosphere that makes me feel like I actually *do* live here. Like this is my home. I feel like I'm part of a great big family. That alone is probably the biggest accomplishment, among all the others. My only regret is that we don't have room to let everyone to come live and work here. I want everyone reading this to know that our services are made possible 100% by donations. No federal funding is used. Donations and volunteers are what keep this place running - and it does go directly to the people who need it.
