I started taking my vehicles to Hal Jones Automotive in the early 80s, on the recommendation of a friend. On one occasion in the 90s, I took my Blazer to a local mechanic for the installation of a new engine; I knew he'd be 'cheaper' than Hal Jones. That stupid decision resulted in burning out the engine, and a need to replace it. I have never made that stupid decision again.When Ron Joy retired, I contemplated finding a mechanic in the Mt. Scott/Lents area where we now live. We have one vehicle, and good access to Mass Transit, and it takes a long time to get to Hal Jones, on NE Fremont.I find Matt Joy to every bit as ethical as his father, and will never take my vehicles anywhere else for service. Vehicles are a huge investment; to simply drop the car off some evening, with the key through the mail slot in the door is a demonstration of trust. I call the next day to find out when I can pick the vehicle up again; and it's usually on its way to being ready.I understand that one customer has made it a personal mission to denounce Hal Jones Automotive; I don't comprehend why. People can be very strange.
