I agree its great sushi and rolls. They have so many special rolls. Very fresh tuna, salmon, yellowtail, super tuna, better than Japan. lovely parking lot. absolutely best sushi restaurant in town.
I absolutely love gaya gaya! I've been going here for the past 4 years when i first moved up here to go to college! i have tried LITERALLY 20 other sushi places in portland and gaya gaya is the best!
It's not great sushi, but it is pretty good. The staff more than makes up it. It is casual and relaxed. I think the sauces that come with the rolls are usually too sweet and syrupy. My biggest complaint is that the eel is not very tastey and is mushy. The combinations with chef's choice are standard- tuna, salmon, white fish. The miso is good and the green tea is okay. It's open all day, so it is convenient. Get the superwhite fish, which melts in your mouth. The handrolls, sushi, and sushimi are really good--it's the handrolls that you have a 50-50 chance with. The gyoza is quite delicious. They have a large selection of items. The presentation is nothing less than spectacular. Go, but be prepared that it is not great, but you should still enjoy the food, the presentation, and the staff. Just figure out what the best items are for you.
