The Bureau of Development Services is administered by the City of Portland in Oregon. The bureau is responsible for promoting safety and economic vitality through efficient and collaborative application of building and development codes. Its land use services division offers guidance to applicants, citizens and other government agencies through various phases of the development review process. The Bureau of Development Services also issues residential, commercial, electrical, plumbing and sanitation permits, as well as conducts inspections. In addition, its compliance services section is responsible for the enforcement of city and state building codes. The bureau distributes applications and handouts related to site development and residential and commercial construction.
