Jackie Nguyen, M.D. is a Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Eyecare Medical Group in Portland, Maine, who specializes in the treatment of Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Vascular Occlusions, Retinal Detachment, Macular Holes, and Macular Pucker. Dr. Nguyen earned her Medical Degree from Baylor College of Medicine followed by a Residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She then completed fellowships in Medical Retina at the University of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and Vitreoretinal Surgery at Tufts Medical Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Nguyen is experienced in the most advanced retinal treatments and surgical techniques. She has participated in many national clinical trials for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Nguyen lives with her husband and two children in Freeport. Dr. Nguyen comments on becoming an ophthalmologist: “I decided to pursue ophthalmology as a career for several reasons. Ophthalmology is both intellectually stimulating and technically challenging, demanding an exceptional level of deftness and skill. The practice of ophthalmology involves treatment of all ages and allows for the establishment of close and long-lasting relationships with patients. Probably the most influential factor in my decision to pursue ophthalmology, however, is the inherent reward of being an ophthalmologist—the immense gratification found in preserving and restoring sight. It is truly fulfilling to work in a field in which there are such significant opportunities for improving the lives of patients.”
