Provided by YP.comThis restaurant is located in a rather downscale part of town, accross the street from the homless food kitchen. The decor is rather depressing, and it is time for the half dead plants in the window to be removed. The remaining ones can be dusted.
The server, while very nice, had a black apron on that looked as thought it had not seen the laundry for quite some time. Kinda takes your appetite away. In any event we decided to give the food a try. The red pasta sauce is actually quite tasty, but the word "al dente" is not on the chefts radar screen. The pasta was so overcooked that would fall apart before you could even try to twirl it. The meatballs, were tasty and the bread that is served is very good. Overall, this place needs a lift so it dows not look so dingy. Don't think we will return. You can find much better atmosphere and food in portland. Surprised by this, as the owner is from a well known and respected restaurant family.

Seven of us went for lunch last week. We had a reservation, so they were expecting us. There was one waitress covering the dining room, so she was pretty busy, but managed it. We must have caught them at a bad time, because they were out of french fries (!) and steak tips for the steak sub. Because of that, service was delayed for about 45 minutes as several of us had to reorder. It ended up being a 1 hour 45 minute lunch. I thought that they could have sent some free appetizers to make up for it. While we were waiting, supplies were being delivered to the kitchen, so maybe the rest of the day was better. When the food came, it looked good, and several of the group really liked their sandwiches. I had a wrap, but the wrap part of it had a slightly bitter taste. My other comment is that this isn't the cleanest restaurant that I've ever eaten at.

Went on a Saturday afternoon during soccer ... ooops FOOTBALL season ;) and the place had a lot of fans :) it was fun & loud, but not in an obnoxious way. Servers were friendly and knowledgeable. We got our drinks & appetizers in a timely way. Our entrees were hot, fresh & delicious! The haddock chowder was the best fish chowder I've had in Maine!!! Excellent atmosphere, excellent service, excellent food & cost at par with food/service! Would highly recommend!

Good food! Located in an "up and coming" area of the city. Parking is plenty unlike the old port area of the city. Atmosphere is great! Service is good
The best lobster specials in town - a friend and I got the $10.99 lobster dinner, and also a triple lobster $19.99 special, so we both ate two lobsters (and they were served to us as two doubles, as we requested), so even with a large platter of fresh-made onion rings and some martinis thrown in (also on special for $3.50), it was a very affordable evening, and very pleasant. The waitress was excellent, and the owner checked several times to make sure we were happy. But nobody was intrusive, and I am sorry not to have discovered this little gem of a restaurant earlier! We will definitely be back.

Great food, great service, greatviews, great completely. I took my mother here when she came from Texas, she loved it as well. The owner came over and said hello, made my mother feel like a queen. Keep up the good work! We recommend this place 100%

Provided by YP.comHaving been around for 20+ years and seen the come and go of bars and eating establishments,(some less eating, and more bar), I found G&R's a refreshing redesign of an otherwise overlooked location. Accross from Skillful Vending and a facinating historical salvage store. What could you ask for.
The menu is great for a quick meal or a family. Onion Rigns are great. All Fish specials are just that. SPECIAL.
You can relax and watch sports, or look over art in the back room, and waist away on the open air patio.
I have read several other reviews by locals. My suggestion is that they express where they came from and what they know. I would like them to remove their boots before they come in. I have seen food butchered on the tile floors, grinders of hamburger not washed, etc. at places I would bet most of them have had a burger or a quick oriental rollup.
What you see is relative. Service is generally the best the time of day can support. To rank a new enterprise the way they have shows, what little they know about what it takes to generate a new business in an area that has been depressed for several generations. Go across the street from the Post Office for YOUR true night life, and sleep well by the undergrowth. Those areas will be next to revitalize.
Gene and his wife will be self starters and follow the path set by the DiMillo family I have know for 20+ years.I expect this location is the start of something new for Portland.

GR Dimillos is the worst restaurant experience Ive had in a long time. The ambiance was comfortable and inviting making me expect decent food and service. After many service blunders, such as receiving our drinks after our appetizers and never getting salad dressing with our salads, we were seriously disappointed. Then came our entrees and that only made matters worse. The baked ziti and ravioli tasted like cafeteria food at best. Meatballs were served with every pasta dish and were very boring and dull. Terrible!!! I will never go back to this place.
