Very clean, and good food. My mother is 91, and is watched and cared for, but the facility does not do the things we pay them to do, like brush her teeth, or check up on her often enough. We can't move her... it would disrupt her life too much. We just keep insisting that they do what we pay them to do, but so far, it's just mediocre. I don't know if it's much different anywhere else. At least it's clean and she's comfortable.

From what I observed while frequently visiting my mother, Birchwoods is only a good place to live for nearly independent people who can take care of themselves. But they seem to have many people there who need nursing home type assistance, and those poor people sit around all day with nothing to do. The staff seems extremely over-worked and stretched very thin. Nothing fun is ever going on in the rec. room for entertainment... I would not recommend this facility if your parents need a lot of special care and stimulation. Staff turnover seems high and I've heard a couple of the caregivers cursing in the hallways and they reeked of cigarettes. I would not want them taking care of my mom, but thankfully she can still care for herself. But, the building itself is nice to live in and the food is high quality.
