First off let me say that I have donated to Salvation Army a lot and I know they get a lot of stuff for FREE from others as well. I have shopped there quite a bit too, but I am really upset now because the one time I ask for them to go down in price and sell me a dresser for $40 they refused! The manager was like, "well, it is worth way more than that." It was small chest of drawers... Maybe 5 drawers high, I believe. I really need a dresser for my twin sons and searched everywhere! I finally find one there which I believe was overpriced, especially for something they got for free! I don't know if I would have paid $40 for it anywhere else, especially with it being a used dresser and scraped up; but I needed it and the manger did not even come back with a counter offer. Instead he pointed to an even smaller dresser and said he would give that one to me for $40. I would not have paid more than $10 for the it! It was wobbly, drawers would not slide easily, etc.... Anyways... My point is they are overpriced, they get stuff for FREE, won't even haggle a price with someone and they are suppose to be helpful and caring for the community! Seems like they are only out to get rich on other people's junk. Makes me not want to donate to them again....
I shop often and many times I have been charged incorrectly. The last time I went I was charged $10 over the amount. I usually buy many items so I don't keep track of it. No one answers the phone. I have to make a trip back to the store and no guarantee that they will make adjustments. Just note, that you have to check your receipt before leaving the store.
First let me say I am a single mommy and baby clothes are pricey! She has so many outfits Ive already bought her but it left me with a less than desireable wardrobe. I went in ths store (my first time shopping at salvation army) & was shocked to find a HUGE store. Very well organized and clean. I of course got distracted with their rather large selection of baby clothes! I literally had 20 to my name and found an adorable outfit for daughter. It was a full outfit (pants and sweater) it was only $5 which was already a great deal to me. I went to the checkout and the outfit was only $0.73 because of a tag sale they were having!! Thats cheaper than yard sale prices!! The staff was very nice and I will definitely be going back to shop!

The store itself does a good job, but, by policy, they do not answer incoming calls. You have to call the main Kalamazoo number. Unfortunately, the people at this number don't have accurate information on what the store will accept. If you are going to donate a large item you need to stop at the store to see if they will asccept it. Otherwise, you risk having them say they cannot accept it after you haul it there.

The staff are very nice, very large selection and organized. On special sale days need all registers open. Sometimes the line is so long we leave without buying. They need to move items have too much crammed on the rack. I really miss the instore music (oldies), now it's one long sermon radio show. As a family we donate and purchase heavily at this location.

The people there working were very nice. I tried calling back to the store, no phone number on the receipt. I tried tracking them online to get their hours... the phone keeps ringing. I tracked down the number for the Burdick store... hours start at 8:30 am there.... phone keeps ringing... same with the Portage store... very discouraging.
I went in to buy a couple of little summer tank tops. I was in shock to see the price tags went from 1.99 to 9.99!! That's a 400% increase in price and twice as much as a brand new tank top at Meijers!!
I kept looking and ALL items had been raised to absolutely ridiculously high amounts! I could not even find ANYTHING with the 50% off tags... as if they were all pulled out and I went in on a Monday? But even if I had found the sale tag, the prices at 50% were the old full price ??
I was told by an employee that the new manager who came from the Battle Creek store HATED Kalamazoo customers and that she was going to teach us a lesson ?? The store was in the red when she took it over and she was extremely proud that she was able to turn profits almost immediately. Well, how long does this "manager" think she will be able to keep punishing us before we completely turn our backs?
These are such tough times for so many of us. We turn to thrift stores because we need to!! This is awful!!
I don't appreciate how they have a phone but no one to answer it. I understand they're retail and so busy as such but it just shows that they really don't care about people trying to follow up with them on their job applications and it's rude and needs to be changed. But the deals on clothes yes, are great.
This new store is not only exceptionally large and filled with good, clean, affordable merchadise, it also has a very friendly and helpful sales staff.
