Provided by YP.comGeneral Utilities of Hampton Bays is a terrible company to do business with. When I refused to pay $550.00 for a air conditioner fan motor, because I could buy one on line for $167.50 delivered the next day the service man changed all the wiring on the capacitor and relay so that it would not work when I did change the motor. Fortunately I can read a wiring diagram (schematic) and was able to fix it myself. I find them dishonest and repulsive, just trying to take advantage of a senior citizen! Their are other companies to do business with here on the East End of Long Island and we already made changes!

Provided by YP.comI hope this helps someone before they make a mistake with General. So I signed with them for a year contract and at the time they were offering a good price. A year goes by and now only a few weeks remain in the contract. I went to turn on my oil burner because it started to get cold and it didn't work so I called service. When they sent someone it was a contracted company. They fixed the issue and measured the oil in the tank which was 2.5 feet (165 gallons of a 275 gallon tank9. The next day the oil burner broke down again so I called again. While requesting a service call I asked when i was scheduled for my next delivery. They told me there was nothing in the near future scheduled. Later on another guy came, it was a General employee. He fixed the issue and was out in a few minutes. I called to ask that my contract not be auto renewed since i was going to sign with someone new since they couldn't match the price. This was 2 weeks before the contract ended. The Mark in pricing on the phone. He seemed nice and was asking what made me decide to not renew. I told him there was another company that was cheaper, he asked who and I told him. Twenty minutes later I got a call from Kathy who accused me of breaching contract and threatening with the breach of contract charge. I told them that I absolutely did not say I have already had another company service me, but I planned on it once the contract ended. She rescinded the threat. Next week out of nowhere a truck came and made an oil delivery (even though the rep i spoke to said there were no scheduled deliveries anytime soon). On the bill it said "Please top off tank before SLP expires on 11/6/TY". I thought it was pretty shady that even though I did not have a delivery scheduled, they rushed to make a delivery since i cancelled and they wanted to get any money they could before end of contract. The even more disturbing part, if there could be something MORE disturbing than what they were already doing, they delivered 126.3 gallons. Now, keep in mind I am no mathematician but they measured 165 gallons 8 days prior to delivery. The weather was warm and they heat usage was very little. If they delivered 126.3 gallons I would have had 291.3 gallons in the tank. The tank only holds 275 so that couldn't be possible. Also, I was told by Michelle in the pricing that the tank only gets filled to about 250 because their needs to be some room in the tank. That would mean that I am 41.3 gallons over the amount that should be in the tank. When I called all they would tell me is that it is impossible and that I was below normal usage of someone with the same size house. They would not address the fact that I gave them a starting number and the numbers of how much they supposedly put in. I have reported them to consumer affairs but i would suggest that if you go with this company, do not ask for them to not auto renew until the last day of your contract. They will rush to put oil in or perform any service they can to get money out of you before you leave. BEWARE!!!!!!!
I've been with this company for fourteen years and in that time I can't say that their service was good. I had a new oil heating system installed by them and each time they came to do the annual service I found screws from the burner left out on the floor or bolts left loose on the boiler. Leaving a mess after they did the service was also a problem. Had to call them back a few times because they didn't do it right the first time.Customer loyalty stinks!
