Established in 1978, the Plainsboro Township Police Department operates under the government of the township of Plainsboro, N.J., and is a law enforcement agency that protects the lives and properties of citizens and visitors, focuses on preserving peace, prevents crime and disorder, and safeguards personal rights and liberty. The department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the use of illegal drugs, membership in gangs and violent behavior. It supports a community emergency response program that provides emergency and disaster management training for neighborhoods, community organizations and workplaces .
