School for Blind Children, established in 1894 and chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, provides special educational programs and residential facilities for students with visual impairments. The school s academic curriculum includes vision orientation and mobility, functional academics, communication skills and refinement of motor skills, and social and emotional development. It also provides recreational activities, vocational training, and physical and occupational therapies to students. The additional services offered by the school include audiological screenings, nutrition counseling, and psychology and optometry consultation. School for Blind Children is located in Pittsburgh and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
