Opera Theater presents SummerFest, an annual midsummer performing arts festival, filled with innovative opera (sung in English), Broadway musicials, recitals, a family opera, late night cabaret, and more for imaginative audiences. Opera Theater is Pittsburgh's modern music drama company and, as such, focuses on creating new works, on reinterpreting older works in new ways, on building diversity in programming and casting, on supporting emerging talent, and on broadening audiences through outreach and education.Founded in 1978, Opera Theater added SummerFest in 2012 as destination event for visitors to Pittsburgh and regional residents.
