Founded in 1972, Persad Center is one of the oldest, licensed counseling centers in the United States. It serves lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. The center provides various services to people suffering with HIV/AIDS, as well as employs mental health professionals. It offers a range of clinical programs in mental health, partner abuse, and drug and alcohol addiction treatment. Its gender clinic program includes individual assessment, gender evaluation, and individual, couple and family counseling services. The center also offers legal assistance, hormone therapy and medical care services, as well as conducts cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries Persad Center provides a variety of training and educational programs to human service professionals. Additionally, it operates a research center and is located in Pittsburgh.
