Since 1984, the Software Engineering Institute has been serving as a federally funded research and development center. Based in Pittsburgh, Pa., the firm helps organizations to improve their software engineering capabilities and to develop the right software. It serves as a national resource in software engineering, computer security and process improvement. Its offerings include professional development, SEI training, SEI certification, tools/methods, research and consulting services, among others. The Software Engineering Institute conducts software engineering research in acquisition, architecture/product lines, process improvement/performance measurement, security and the like.
