One of eight schools of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, has more than 2,500 faculty members. Spread out on campuses in Piscataway, New Brunswick and Camden, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School conducts basic and clinical research in a wide range of biomedical sciences. On its three campuses, the school houses twenty academic departments and six major research centers and institutes. In fiscal year 2000, externally sponsored research reached $82.5 million. Additionally, 10 patents were issued to RWJMS researchers and three license agreements were signed for processes or techniques developed at the school. Founded in 1962, the school is ranked among the top fifty primary care medical schools in the United States and rated second for community health.
