Established in 1968, Capital Area Counseling Service is a provider of behavioral, addiction and mental health programs/services for the families and individuals in central South Dakota. Based in Pierre, S.D., it serves the youth, adults and senior citizens of the community. The center offers several services, such as prevention classes, group counseling, medication management, psychological testing, outreach services for families, recovery-based services, therapeutic foster care, offender services and screening and assessment. The service areas include Buffalo, Sully, Haakon, Hughes, Lyman, Hyde, Potter, Jones and Stanley. State of South Dakota accredits Capital Area Counseling Service as a mental health, addiction treatment and child welfare agency.
