Local Medford/Ashland resident John Hill is a master craftsman in violin making, as well as restoration and repair. John uses traditional old world methods inspired by the great 17th and 18th century masters from Cremona, as well as other violin making centers in Italy. Taught by award winning Violin Maker John Harrison, John Hill has also refined his art by his own careful study of the diverse and varying elements that interplay in a beautifully sounding instrument. As a lifelong musician on violin and guitar, he is aware of the nuances that are sought after by serious artists. In 2003, his large viola won first prize for tone - VMAAI. He continues to compete in international violin making competitions. Currently selling direct through his own Hill Violin Shop and Cavallo Violins in Omaha NE. He offers finely made, hand crafted Violins, Violas and Cellos. He also offers a full service shop in Phoenix, Oregon with expert repair, bow rehairing, quality rentals, strings, accessories, and sales of advancing student and professional level violins, violas and cellos.
