  Since 1971, our firm has been at the head of the field in the litigation of cases vindicating civil rights and civil liberties and in the defense of individuals charged with crimes under federal or state law. Our civil cases address a wide variety of issues, including police misconduct, the rights of prisoners, free speech, and unlawful discrimination. In the area of criminal defense, the firm concentrates on trial defense and complex search and seizure issues, and provides expert appellate and post-conviction representation. We handle cases at every stage, at trial and on appeal, and in both the state and federal courts. We are a private firm dedicated to promoting the public interest, frequently partnering with non-profit organizations and seeking to litigate matters that will result in broad benefits to the underrepresented members of our community.
