- DermabrasionAcne scars respond well to dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is a superficial surgical technique for reducing acne scars by removing the topmost layers of scarred skin, leaving it supple and vibrant. Removing the outer layer of skin (epidermis) and a portion of the inner (dermis) layer of skin promotes new collagen growth.Depending on the severity and depth of facial scarring to be treated, dermabrasion can be done superficially or deeply. It can even be coupled with a laser resurfacing procedure with a fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, the most up-to-date and innovative technique to remove facial scarring and rejuvenate sun-damaged facial skin.Only one dermabrasion procedure is needed and results can last for more than ten years. Typically there is one to two weeks of downtime depending on how deep the resurfacing was performed.
