Very Satisfied

I have been very satisfied with Lakewood CDC the past 2 years my son has been enrolled there. I am pleased with them following the curriculum that was laid out at the beginning of the year and how much progress my son has made in several areas of development. I would highly recommend enrolling here!

At face value this daycare seems great; however, overall this daycare was pretty disappointing. The A Beka program is used, but it is not enforced. My three year old was not taught to write or draw, which was advertised. I had to do that on my own at home, and she was in the Pre k 3 class. More importantly, the current director is fairly ineffective as a leader. The pre k 3 teachers were not regularly assisting the 3 year old children in the bathroom, which was proven to me by my daughter being sent home on several occasions with streak filled undies. Although 3 year olds are taught how to wipe properly, they still need assistance when they go "number 2." Also, if they weren't being helped to wipe, then they weren't being helped (or enforced) to wash their hands. I was given word by an employee at the daycare that the director actually called a meeting with the teachers and basically had to tell them to do their jobs in the bathrooms (because apparently there were several complaints about the kids coming home unclean). Anyway, when my daughter was sent home for the third time in as many months with dirty undies, I spoke to the current director, who basically told me that the teachers were not made to assist the children in the bathrooms. Obviously, this is a problem. Toddlers should not, under any circumstances, go to the bathrooms alone at 3 years old. Now, I was told personally by my daughter's pre k 3 teacher that sometimes the kids do go alone when one of the teachers are out of the classroom. I will state that the policy of Lakewood is to not have them go alone, but sometimes they do. More importantly, when I brought up my complaints with the director about the unclean undies, she told me that she could move my daughter to another pre k 3 class, but that the teacher in that class "doesn't do butts." Seriously, that is what she told me. I was appalled for the director to tell me as a paying and concerned parent, that if my daughter moves down the hall to a new class, one teacher is willing to assist the 3 year olds, and the other one absolutely will not. One of my many issues with this is that there is a major hygiene problem here, and when I addressed it, the director made it clear to me that she had no intention of forcing her teachers to do their jobs. Every good parent knows that 3 year olds still need help and guidance (especially in the restroom), and for the director to have such a nonchalant, immature, and neglectful attitude towards the cleanliness of their students was too much for me accept. As such, that was the last week that my daughter attended that daycare - I immediately removed my daughter from Lakewood and moved her to the Growing Room in Columbus (and I love it there)! I will say that during the course of my time at Lakewood, I have seen and heard of several parents leaving for one reason or another. I was totally displeased with the dismissive nature of the director and some of the teachers, and it was crystal clear to me that even though these people work in the childcare field, the nurturing, caring, and loving attitude that should be a necessity to have towards the children was blatantly not there. If Lakewood was the only daycare left in the area, I would rather quit my job and give up my pay than send her back there.
