Established in 1915, the Peru Police Department is a law enforcement agency that protects the lives and properties of citizens and visitors, focuses on preserving peace, prevents crime and disorder, and safeguards personal rights. The department employs more than 25 civilians, including sergeants, dispatchers and patrol officers. It maintains a K-9 unit that handles cases related to drug intervention, tracking and searches for people and evidence. The Peru Police Department employs a school resource officer who maintains liaisons with schools. The department operates an administration division. It maintains a communication center that coordinates responses to fire, police and medical emergencies.
