His post-doctoral training was done at NYU Downtown Hospital in Manhattan where he completed a 3 year surgical residency. He served as Chief Surgical Resident for which he received an award for his leadership. In addition to his medical and surgical training at NYU Downtown Hospital, Dr. Gewirtz did extensive training at the Diabetic Foot and Ankle Center at The Hospital for Joint Disease in Manhattan. Here, he trained extensively in diabetic wound care and limb salvage. He received his B.A. from the University of Rochester in 1997. Dr. Gewirtz maintains appointments at The Valley Hospital, HUMC at Pascack Valley, Hackensack University Medical Center and Surgicare of Oradell. Previously he was on staff at Beth Israel Medical Center where he was the Associate Residency Director. He is board certified in foot surgery, a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is currently a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the New Jersey State Podiatric Medical Society. Dr. Gewirtz is trained in some of the most current and advanced medical procedures available today. He performs coblation and shock wave therapy for heel pain and fasciitis, platelet rich plasma, laser treatments, arthroscopy for minimally invasive ankle and foot injuries as well as advanced training in new surgical techniques and fixation devices. He routinely attends conferences and workshops to stay up-to-date on current medical trends and reads journals to stay on top of new science and treatments. Dr. Gewirtz has given lectures at New York Presbyterian Hospital, NYU and Beth Israel Medical Center in the past on topics ranging from general foot care
