General Info

Since 1993, it has been the mission of the non-profit Everglades Foundation to lead efforts to restore and protect the greater Everglades ecosystem. The Foundation recognizes both the irreplaceable environmental and economic value of the fabled "River of Grass." By leveraging science and advocacy to help shape the decisions of stakeholders and focusing on research, collaboration among like-minded organizations, grants and the advancement of environmental awareness, the Foundation has become a respected and important advocate for the sustainability of one of the world's unique ecosystems. Established as a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) not-for-profit, funds raised by the Foundation are used for scientific research, advancing understanding of the Greater Everglades ecosystem and to provide grants to our conservation partners. In addition to grants, the Foundation supports necessary legal actions to help protect the Everglades. The Everglades Foundation works to protect the Everglades through environmental leadership, scientific expertise and policy experience. The Foundation's world-class science department conducts and sponsors scientific research and analysis, so facts determine our policies, positions and actions. We give grants to the best local, national and international organizations to focus their professional staff and millions of members on Everglades restoration. We partner to form coalitions, set priorities, share information and devise strategies to unite and strengthen the voices for Everglades restoration. We monitor local, state and federal government policies and actions that affect the Everglades ecosystem. We communicate the truth about the threats to the Everglades and offer the best possible solutions to them. We are advocates on behalf of the Everglades with policy makers who affect the future of the ecosystem.
