Authentic, excellent Mexican; great weekly specials; wonderful salsa & guac; incredible value!

I like this place a lot. It's a real diamond in the rough. It's kind of a local dive, close to the beach, and real homey. Food and drinks are priced allright, portions are big, there are a few original menu items but it's standard Tex-Mex. I think they've got one of the best homemade hot salsa's ever, they should sell it in jars. Order's often got lost in the shuffle if they're busy - I recommend ordering Take-Out if you're really hungry. And who do ya gotta kill to get extra hot sauce or salsa refills? I know they're complimentary, but it wouldn't hurt to serve 'HOT' chips instead of stale cold chips - just get a heat lamp for pete's sake! Don't get me started about cleaning the joint - I think it's safe and healthy to eat there, but overall there's grunge and grime build up everywhere. It's long overdue for some paint. Take it or leave it I guess.La Playa has huge potential to do better with only a little extra effort. Hope they do, but I won't hold my breath.
