Arkansas Valley Electric Corporation purchased more than 1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2000. AVEC is a nonprofit electric service provider. headquartered in Ozark, Ark. District offices are located in Waldron, Ark. and Pocola, Okla. The cooperative purchases its power wholesale from Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Corporation, Little Rock, Ark and Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company, Oklahoma City, Okla. Currently the Cooperative has more than 7,300 miles of distribution lines, 38 electrical substations, more than 49,300 electric services. The cooperative offers many products and services including surge protection, automatic bank drafts, levelized billing and security lights. The company was established in 1937.
