As a boy growing up in Oxford, the youngest of five, I still awake to the sounds in my dreams of the gravel trains running 24 hours up and down M-24, West Burdick and my street, Broadway.In 8th grade, for a special project, we were to create a rock collection. I received permission from Mr. Koenig and collected every known stone quarried/excavated at the gravel pit in Oxford on Lakeville Rd. Then my Brother John, who worked in the woodshop at Sea Ray, made a beautiful case out of teakwood. Needless to say I received an A+.I remember taking it back to show Mr. Koenig and how proud he was of the stones and the project I completed. He commented to me, "Jim, someday that should be in the Oxford Museum." After almost 35 years ago, I would agree. For all interested ATHS & Vintage truck enthusiasts, a short article on Koenig with pictures was submitted in the March/April 2010 Vol. 18-No.1 issue of Vintage Truck magazine by Merle Moline of Clinton Township. I remeber these Black Cement mixers & gravel haulers as a boy growing up in Oxford. Great article Merle, I wish there was more pictures!!!
