I'm obligated to work with Habitech since they're contracted through my home builder, Drees Homes. I'm stuck with them for the installation of my security system & media lines.



Their standard structured enclosure is 14". I request an upgrade to 28". They quote me $175 for a 28". For that price, I could purchase a 42" with hinged door.



Cat5e is their standard data wiring. I requested Cat6, and was quoted $350 to upgrade. One may purchase 1,000' (2x the amount needed for my home) of Cat6 for < $130 retail. Mind you, they're already running the Cat5e, this is what they're quoting me to use Cat6 instead.



Within the walls, I ask for them to install the Cat5e wiring in conduits. They, of course, refuse. It's not part of their standards & practices. All I'd need is for them to run their wiring through 6, $4 conduits in the walls.



Looks like I get the fun of cutting into my new walls or finding ways to drill from the attic through the inside of my walls to upgrade my networking.
