The Onalaska Police Department maintains social order and peace, as well as provides law enforcement services. The department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. In addition, it supports Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T), which is a school-based, officer-instructed program that includes classroom instruction for the prevention of delinquency, violence and gang membership.
