  If you experience bleeding or pain in early pregnancy, the pregnancy may be abnormal. About 15 % of early pregnancies are abnormal, and result in a miscarriage (14 %) or a tubal pregnancy (1 %). Early detection of an abnormal pregnancy results in safer treatment and a quicker return to fertility. Early failed intrauterine pregnancies and early ectopic pregnancies can be managed with medication. Advanced miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies are treated surgically at St. Peter Hospital or Capital Medical Center.
