- ArthritisAutoimmune disorders can have devastating systemic and ocular effects. Symptoms may include dry or red eyes, foreign-body sensation, light sensitivity, pain, visual changes, and even complete loss of vision. Because a number of these diseases may initially present with ocular symptoms, a thorough complete eye health exam should be performed.
- Pediatric CareIt is estimated that up to 50% of the brain cortex is involved in visual processing, which is why Dr. Escalante is passionate about visual health and honored to be part of her patients’ health care team. Her professional interests include pediatrics, traumatic brain injuries, low vision, and contact lenses.
- Primary CareMany patients do not realize it but the eyes are the only place in the body that we can look directly at the blood vessels to see how they are reacting throughout the rest of their bodies. Therefore, our doctors work very closely with local general practitioners, internists and endocrinologists to manage diabetic eye care. Once we have seen you, we will send a report back to your primary care provider to let them know how your blood vessels are responding to any current treatments. Together, we make a great team responsible for your total care!

- Macular DegenerationMore on UV protection – UV light is absorbed by molecules known as chromophores, which are present in the eye cells and tissues. Chromophores absorb light energy from the various wavelengths at different rates – a pattern known as absorption spectrum. If too much UV light is absorbed, eye structures such as the cornea, the lens and the retina can be damaged causing cataracts, macular degeneration and pinguecula among other things.
