- Dental ExaminationDr. Kapust is a board certified orthodontist in Olympia, WA. This voluntary certification process means that Dr. Kapust passed a comprehensive written examination covering all aspects of orthodontics as well as completing an oral examination to assess his treatment planning abilities, thought processes, and knowledge of past and present research in orthodontics and pediatric dentistry. Few dentists have achieved board certification in their specialties and Dr. Kapust is one of only two dentists in Washington who achieved board certification in both orthodontics and pediatric dentistry. Involvement in the certification process is a demonstration of Dr. Kapust’s pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence along with his love for working with children and teenagers.
- X-raysDental X-Rays are very safe and the amount of radiation from dental X-Rays is very small. Today’s equipment filters out unnecessary x-rays and restricts the x-ray beam to the area of interest. Dental X-Rays are designed to limit the body’s exposure. Pediatric dentists are incredibly careful to minimize the exposure of their patients to radiation. Dental radiographs represent a far smaller risk than an undetected and untreated dental problem.
- Teeth CleaningDuring pregnancy, keep seeing your dentist regularly for oral exams and teeth cleaning. If you are worried about the effect any drug, treatment, or x-ray might have on your pregnancy, discuss your concerns with your dentist and physician.
- Fluoride TreatmentDr. Kapust is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. Pediatric dentistry is the specialization of preventing dental disease, restoring decayed and missing teeth and maintaining proper growth and development of the teeth and jaws. We provide care for infants, children, teenagers and young adults. Our services include preventive dental care including cleaning and fluoride treatments, as well as nutrition and diet recommendations, repair of tooth cavities or defects and care for dental injuries.
- Dental SealantsDental sealants work to prevent cavities by sealing pits and fissures that naturally occur in molars. Sealants “seal off” the pit and fissure of your molars to prevent food and plaque from collecting and forming cavities.
- CrownsIf your child fractures or knocks out a tooth, you may store the tooth or fragments in a clean container of milk. If milk is not available, you may use the child’s saliva to store the tooth. Never use water to transport a broken or knocked-out tooth. You must visit the dentist immediately to prevent infection and other complications that are brought on by chipped or knocked-out teeth. If the tooth is knocked out, only touch the crown of the tooth and not the root. Your pediatric dentist will be able to repair your child’s tooth or fix it with a crown.
- Oral SurgeryImpacted Teeth – An impacted tooth is a tooth that does not fully erupt above the gums. This is typically caused by overcrowding, your jaw is too small for all of your teeth or the tooth is erupting in the wrong direction. Not all impacted teeth require oral surgery.

- BracesYour braces may cause some discomfort during the first few days of treatment and after some subsequent adjustments. There are several things you can do to minimize this problem. Eat soft foods for the first few days. Use a warm saltwater rinse, as needed. Consider taking over-the-counter analgesics such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, as needed. Put wax over any problem areas.
